Multiple medals earned by teams from the readership area of the Press-Herald

The ball season for a number of local teams ended the weekend of July 23-25, when area teams competed at their respective provincial championships.

On the softball side, teams ranging from divisions of U12-U16 competed throughout the province.

The U12 Unity Panthers played a tough provincial final against Kindersley at their event in Prince Albert. The lead changed numerous times with Kindersley coming out the victors, leaving the Unity team with a provincial silver medal.

Kerrobert U12 players Zoey Eagles, Tommie Schell-Wack and coach Carey Eagles were part of the Kindersley Royals U12 Open girl’s North provincial championship win.

The U14 Unity Panthers competed in Saskatoon at their provincial game. Although they had some close games, they were not successful in earning a spot in the playoff pool.

The U14 Macklin Lakers won silver in their provincial division. The team included Kerrobert players Hennessey Mackinnon and Brooklyn Kraft.

The U16 Unity Panthers competed in Regina. The successful completion of the round robin portion of this provincial event put the Panthers into the playoff rounds. However, after a tough morning game the team would be playing in the bronze medal game that day, which they won, earning them third place in their provincial championship.

The U16 Kerrobert Kougars captured gold in their Open South White division. The team was made up from several west central communities and included Kerrobert players Tristyn Endicott, Brielle Neumeier and Hayden Severson.

The U19 Unity Panthers provincial event took place Aug 6 weekend in Saskatoon. The team did not lose a game throughout round robin and playoffs, earning them a spot in the provincial final. However, facing the strong bats and pitching of the Assiniboia Aces, the Panthers lost 11-5 giving them a silver medal in their provincial championship.

On the baseball side, a number of teams ranging from U11 to U15 competed.

The Unity Cardinals hosted the U11 Tier 2 division and while they started strong they were unable to capitalize wins into a spot in the playoff pool.

The Unity Cardinals U13 competed in the AA Tier 1 division in Meunster. The Cards lost their opening game but bounced back with two wins. However the game needed to guarantee them a spot in the final did not go their way and they were eliminated.

The Macklin Lakers captured gold in the 13U AA Tier 5 Provincial championships winning 12-9 over the Regina Pacers.

The U15 Unity Cardinals competed in the AA Tier 2 division in Saskatoon but, after a loss in their last round robin game, were eliminated from playoff contention. Kerrobert player Carson Kraft was part of the provincial semi finalists with the Eston Ramblers.

The U18 Unity Cardinals will play host the AA Tier 1 provincial championship this weekend, Aug 13-15, at the diamonds in Unity, with their opening game on Aug. 13 at 2:30 p.m.

This will wrap up ball season for 2021. Teams were thankful to have been afforded the opportunity for games, tournaments and provincials as opposed to the quiet season they experienced in 2020.
