UNITY ‑ When the U18 AA West Central Wheat Kings captured a final playoff spot, players and coaches knew they were headed into a new season, one that would require both stamina and discipline.
The Centre Four Hockey League north division final will include the Wheat Kings.
Sweeping the top team, Saskatoon River Kings, gave them the confidence boost they needed to head into the next series against a tough Warman team.
Coach Sperle has described Warman as a fast skating, skilled team that would require the team’s best efforts to defeat. Strong plays on both offence and defence netted the Kings another series sweep as they won the deciding game by a score of 8-2. Hunter Sperle continues to be a super scorer, netting five of the team’s eight goals on March 13. Ben Walz also scored a hat trick in the game.
“The entire team is playing very well. They have committed to playing with a team-first attitude and as a result have been very disciplined, going from leading the league in penalty minutes to very few PM," says Sperle.
Sperle also acknowledges the goaltending and says his team is ready and excited to be in the division final and are thankful for the fan support so far.
The Wheat Kings await the winner of the series between Saskatoon Eagles and Saskatoon Ice Hawks to face off for the north division final.
