Powerhouses Wilkie & Macklin show no signs of slowing in playoffs

As of Feb. 21, Wilkie holds a one game lead on Edam in league semi final while Macklin has forced top seed Kindersley to a must win game in their SWHL semi final series.

WILKIE - An extended hockey season for Wilkie Outlaws and Macklin Mohawks fans has been exciting, as both teams continue their winning ways in league and provincial playoffs.

The Mohawks stunned the top seed SWHL team, Kindersley Klippers, in opening game victory of the best-of-five series of the SWHL semifinal. Their Twitter feed said “the boys grind it out and take the first game. Player of the game was Tyler Bair with the game winning goal.”

A game two victory, Feb. 19, for Macklin, has now put top seed Klippers in a must-win game Feb. 26 at home. The Mohawks are looking to secure their spot in the SWHL final and repeat their championship title from 2021.

The Hawks will face off against the Kyle Elks of the Sask Valley Hockey League in their quest to capture the northern final and earn their spot in the provincial D men’s hockey championship final. Games are set for Feb. 25 in Kyle, March 3 in Macklin, and a return to Kyle for game three if needed.

The Wilkie Outlaws began their league semifinal series against a strong Edam 3-Stars team Feb. 17 on home ice. Game one went to the Outlaws with a decided victory of 8-1. Game two is set in Edam Feb. 22 and the series returns to Unity Feb. 28. If games three and four are necessary, they will take place on March 3 in Edam and March 7 in Wilkie.

The Outlaws now know that they are facing off against the Wadena Wildcats of the Long Lake Hockey League for the northern final of the provincial men’s B competition and are hoping to keep their hot streak going to secure their spot in the provincial final. Games one and three are
