Premier visits SaskCan Centre in Wilkie

Mayor of Wilkie welcomed Premier Scott Moe for a tour of the SaskCan Centre.

WILKIE – With only a few weeks left before the provincial election must be called, Premier Scott Moe made an early morning visit to the Town of Wilkie on Sept 9. Mayor David Ziegler was joined by Rebecca Parent, Administrative Assistant, Lori Fenrich, Recreation Director & Economic Development officer, and Alex Majewski, town councilor, as he welcomed the Premier into the SaskCan Centre lobby.

MLA Ken Francis was also in attendance, with SaskParty candidates James Thorsteinson and Kim Gartner. The conversation quickly turned to the biggest topic in many small farming communities, how the harvest was going. Moe was very interested in hearing about the upgrades and new additions the community is bringing in, with the construction of the new swimming pool and the new daycare being built in the town limits.

Ziegler and Fenrich were eager to show the group how much work went into fixing the centre after an electrical fire in 2015, thus closing the arena, curling rink and hall for the year. Donations came in during the Kraft Hockeyville competition, where Wilkie was a top-four finalist, including from businessman and investor Brett Wilson. Wilson, who is most known for his time on CBC’s Dragon’s Den, grew up in the neighbouring community of North Battleford.

Moe was also going to visit the communities of Biggar, Rosetown, Milden and Kindersley.
