UNITY — The Unity & District Multiple 4-H Club kicked off the year with a general meeting in the Agroplex Oct. 11.
4-H is a youth organization meant to teach members leadership and a variety of life skills. We have 20 members ranging from ages six to 17 this year. Some members are returning and some are new to 4-H.
We run our meetings by parliamentary procedure. At the beginning of our first meeting, members nominate and vote on the executive. Our executive this year is: Danae Vold - president, Casey Lewin – vice-president, Taylor Ducherer - secretary, Jude McGonigle - treasurer and Annie Pitura - reporter.
We also nominate and vote for adults to be our general and project leaders. The projects this year are beef, light horse, young horse, archery, mechanics, gardening, sewing and genealogy.
There are certain requirements for a member to complete the 4-H year. Some of these include attending 75 per cent of meetings, completing a general record book and one record book for each of the projects that member is in, doing a speech and presenting their project at the end of the year.
Throughout the year we also do volunteering and community service. Some members are going to represent the club at the Remembrance Day service. We also do ditch-picking. We are excited to get this 4-H year rolling and look forward to seeing you in and around the community where we will be using our four h’s - head, heart, hands and health.
