WILKIE — Wheatland Regional Library’s 2023 summer reading programs brought communities together in a friendly competition to determine who would be named the Wheatland Reading Cup Champions.
In total, 27 community libraries took on the challenge with Wilkie Branch Library coming out on top. Wilkie had set a goal of 20,000 minutes of reading time, and over the summer, Wilkie readers surpassed their goal by logging 141,296 minutes towards the two million minutes total for the region.
Readers submitted their reading logs to their local libraries or through their Beanstalk account.
It was a tight race, and Wilkie pushed hard at the end with a week to go and was able to snatch first place. Congratulations also goes out to Kyle Branch Library and Martensville Branch Library as the second- and third-place communities.
Wheatland Regional Library says this program was designed to inspire kids to explore reading as a source of entertainment and create a lifelong love of reading.
