KERROBERT — The Kerrobert Harvest Festival has come and gone for another year. The weather was amazing and every event had plenty of people taking in all of the festivities. There were 42 entries into the parade and each float was decorated so nice. Many former residents made their way home to have Thanksgiving with their families and took in the festivities, especially the dance on Saturday night. Everyone who helped organize, work and take in the events made it a very successful Harvest Festival over the Thanksgiving weekend.
The Kerrobert Junior Rebel football team captured the league title with a hard-fought victory over the Unity Junior Warriors 34-32 Oct. 19. Congratulations to both teams on such a wonderful game and season. The Senior Rebels won their final regular season game and are now preparing for a deep playoff drive, which will hopefully lead to a provincial title. Go Rebels!
Two former Kerrobert Rebel alumni are finding success in the Prairie Football League. Jacob Ambros is playing with the Saskatoon Hilltops and Ben Walz is playing for the Regina Thunder. Both teams had amazing seasons. The Hilltops won a good battle over the Regina Thunder 21-13, with the Hilltops once again being crowned PFC Champions. The Hilltops will move on to the Canadian Junior Football League final against the St. Clair Saints of Windsor, Ont. The Saints earned their spot with a dominant 29-3 win over the Ottawa Sooners. The game between the Hilltops and the Saints will be played Oct. 29 and should prove to be an epic battle.
There is unfortunately some bad news to report. Kerrobert lost its hardware store at the end of August. We have also received word that after 16 years, the bakery will be closing its retail portion of the business. This means no more sitting in for coffee, having a great meal, going into order doughnuts or anything else. The bakery will still supply bread to our grocery stores in Kerrobert and surrounding areas, but this will be a massive loss. There are so many people who looked forward to going to the bakery when they come to town either for work or meetings. Some just took a drive to enjoy the food and speciality drinks.
Halloween is fast approaching. This is a great time for the kids. We all look forward to seeing all the costumes. It may be a little on the cool side as far as weather, but the kid’s excitement is still fun to see and I am sure it won't deter too many kids from venturing out to get their fill of candy.
