UNITY - In a time-honoured tradition, Unity Composite High School handed out awards to students for academics, athletics, leadership, citizenship, honour roll and others in a special ceremony June 6 held at the school.
The citizenship award junior winner went to Jada Poitras with Emily Smith winning the senior citizenship award.
The leadership award went to Dawson Gilbert in junior division and Carrie Poitras was the senior leadership winner.
A sister duo won the arts and culture award with Jada Poitras being awarded the junior honour with Grade 12 student, and sister to Jada, Carrie Poitras, winning the senior arts and culture.
The highest honour bestowed in the evening is the Three Beliefs Award. Junior winner was Clarissa Roodt and senior winner was Kaybree Spendelow. These awards recognize students who are shining examples of UCHS three: Beliefs – Respect, Responsibility, Choose to Learn.
Other awards handed out included both junior and senior athletic awards. Positive School Climate Committee recognized Grade 12 students, co-chairs Emily Smith and Kaybree Spendelow as well as Grade 12 student Kristina Hansen. Attendance awards were also handed out as were district and provincial athletic winners as well as volunteer recognition.

Practical and Applied Arts: Grade 10 - Lex Olesen; Grade 11 - Grace Lindsay; Grade 12 - Taelyn Wildeman.
Phys. Ed.: Grade 11 - Molly Orobko.
Visual Arts: Grade 10 - Hailey Lynn Aldred.
Humanities: Grade 10 - Rhett Berki; Grade 11 - Molly Orobko; Grade 12 - Kaybree Spendelow.
Math/Science: Grade 10 - Lex Olesen; Grade 11 - Molly Orobko; Grade 12 - Kaybree Spendelow.
Proficiency: Grade 10 - Rhett Berki; Grade 11 - Molly Orobko. The Grade 12 Proficiency award and medal is presented at graduation ceremonies and that student is also honoured with presenting the valedictory address.
