REGINA - The man hoping to take over from Justin Trudeau as Prime Minister took his campaign to Saskatchewan Tuesday.

Former Governor of the Bank of Canada Mark Carney took his campaign to Regina Tuesday morning, where he held an event in front of a room full of Liberal supporters who braved bone chilling conditions to be there. The appearance came after a rally in Winnipeg the day before.

“It was -26 in Regina this morning, and this crowd came out for change. Thank you. Let’s keep building,” was the post on X from Carney’s feed.

That post did not seem to impress others on social media. One commenter posted: “Mark Carney addressing a small room of people. Average age 75. 500 likes in 14 minutes. Impossible.”

"Where are all the young people?" was the post from former CTV News journalist Alan Fryer. Another posted a picture of a Pierre Poilievre rally with a much larger crowd in a large hall.

Regina is not a major hotbed of Liberal strength, even though the area was represented in Parliament and cabinet for many years by Ralph Goodale. At the moment, all three of Regina's federal ridings are held by Conservative MPs.

The Liberal leadership race will be decided on March 9. Other candidates in the race are Chrystia Freeland, Karina Gould, Frank Baylis and Ruby Dhalla. All five have paid the $125,000 instalment required last Friday to stay on the ballot.
