REGINA - Much of Saskatchewan is under an extreme cold warning as of Friday.
Environment Canada is saying a period of very cold wind chills is expected, with temperatures near -30 with wind chill values near -40 are expected to continue today and tonight.
This cold weather is expected to continue into Saturday before improving Sunday. Areas covered by extreme cold warnings include much of the central and also the northern areas of the province including the cities of Saskatoon, Regina and Moose Jaw.
According to the statement from Environment Canada: "Extreme cold puts everyone at risk. Dress warmly. Dress in layers that you can remove if you get too warm. The outer layer should be wind resistant. Cover up. Frostbite can develop within minutes on exposed skin, especially with wind chill. If it’s too cold for you to stay outside, it’s too cold for your pet to stay outside. Outdoor workers should take regularly scheduled breaks to warm up."
