REGINA - A proposed decrease to SaskEnergy’s commodity rate has been given approval, with some slight adjustment, by the Saskatchewan Rate Review Panel.
Earlier this year the province had authorized SaskEnergy to submit a proposal for a 22.1 per cent decrease to the commodity rate, dropping at from $4.20 to $3.30 per gigajoule, as well as consider a five per cent delivery service rate increase.
The Saskatchewan Rate Review Panel has completed its review and has come up with the following recommendations to the Minister for SaskEnergy:
That the commodity rate be reduced from $4.20/GJ to $3.20/GJ which will reduce the discharge period in the GCVA from December 31, 2025 to September 30, 2025 to match the typical gas commodity year of October 1 to September 30;
That SaskEnergy set a deadline to make the conversion to billing in energy;
That the delivery rate adjustment of five per cent for the 2023-24 fiscal year be approved with provision that no further increases occur during the 2024-25 fiscal year;
That SaskEnergy consider and introduce further strategies that will reduce the trend of increasing OM&A expenses;
That any outstanding recommendations in the Panel’s report dated December 16, 2022, are carried forward with the understanding that those that have not been implemented or dealt with will continue to be a priority for the company.
