Star Stories Night brings storytelling and astronomy to Regina

Running from 5 to 9 p.m., the free event will take place across three locations with free shuttle.

Event celebrating Indigenous Storytelling Month will light up Regina on Feb. 28.

REGINA — A free event celebrating Indigenous Storytelling Month will light up Regina on Feb. 28 with Star Stories Night. Running from 5 to 9 p.m., the event will take place across three locations, offering a unique blend of Indigenous traditions and scientific exploration.

Event locations:

  • Regina Public Library at mâmawêyatitân Centre (3355 6th Avenue)
  • Saskatchewan Science Centre (2903 Powerhouse Drive)
  • Neil Balkwill Civic Arts Centre (2420 Elphinstone Street)

One of the highlights of the evening is the featured program led by Laurie Rousseau-Nepton, Canada’s first Indigenous woman astrophysicist. "Explore the stars" with Rousseau-Nepton at 5, 6, 7 and 8 p.m. at mâmawêyatitân Centre.

Activities at each location:

Regina Public Library at mâmawêyatitân Centre:

  • Star exploration with Laurie Rousseau-Nepton;
  • Indigenous storytelling in the Star Dome;
  • Snowshoe tours with Growing Young Movers; and
  • Indigenous arts and crafts.

Saskatchewan Science Centre:

  • Public viewings at the Kalium Observatory with the Royal Astronomical Society;
  • Performance of Starry Night by New Dance Horizons (Exhibit Floor);
  • Indigenous storytelling with Jesse Ray Archibald-Barber;
  • Space learning session with University of Regina astrophysics professor Samantha Lawler (Small Theatre); and
  • Exploration of the entire science exhibit floor.

Neil Balkwill Civic Arts Centre:

  • Night sky VR experience with artist John Desnoyers-Stewart;
  • Guided nature night walk with Nature Regina focusing on night vision;
  • Constellation crafts with Indigenous artist Jamie Reynolds;
  • Indigenous storytelling around the outdoor community fire pit, with hot chocolate provided by El Tropezón; and
  • Nature art, snow sculpting, and more.

To make the event accessible, a free shuttle service will be available to transport attendees between locations. The shuttle will depart from each site every 15 minutes from 5 p.m. to 9:45 p.m.

Star Stories Night 2025 is a chance for the community to engage in cultural storytelling and scientific discovery under the stars.
