WEYBURN - This is Mental Health Week (May 6-12).
In your mailbox last week, you should have received a green door hanger delivered with your flyers in Weyburn This Week.
Residents of Weyburn are encouraged to affix this hanger to your front doorknob or in your window to show support to those who live with mental health issues.
Community resources are listed on the back, along with a QR code to scan and access these resources easily.
As someone who has had mental health issues in the past, and has friends and family that have dealt with issues as well, I know that it is not always easy to reach out.
Sometimes the fear of judgement or rejection is so debilitating, asking for help is not an option.
This is why CMHA’s Call to Action is so important. We need to be aware of those around us and help them seek out the assistance they need.
If you or someone you know is struggling with mental health concerns, please reach out to one of the resources listed on the green door hanger.
The theme for Mental Health Week 2024 is Compassion Â鶹´«Ã½s.
“We all have the capacity to be compassionate, and we know that doing so can make an enormous difference. This year’s Mental Health Week is centered on the healing power of compassion. In a world plagued by suffering, we emphasize that kindness is equally intrinsic to our humanity.”
There is a saying, “In a world where you can be anything, be kind.”
Kindness and compassion are essential for us to grow, as individuals and as a community.
We need to lean on each other in times of sorrow and grief, to rejoice with each other in times of happiness and success, and we need to watch out for those around us. Are you your brother’s keeper? Yes, yes you are.
Lean on me when you’re not strong
And I’ll be your friend, I’ll help you carry on...
For it won’t be long
Till I’m gonna need somebody to lean on.
