Smyth: Deb: Feb. 16, 1956 - July 11, 2104
Debra Lee Hancock was born in Indian Head, Sask. as the second daughter of Wayne and Jean Hancock. She developed close friends, went to school and has always been proud to call Indian Head her "home town".
In 1978 Deb married her best friend, Hugh Smyth of Parkman. Together they began building a life of the farm and in business. Their most precious gift came in 1984 when son Kyle entered their lives.
Debbie worked hard but she also played hard. Everyone benefited from her wonderful cooking skills, her friendly manner and her beautiful smile. She loved a joke and enjoyed laughing with others.
When Deb was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, she decided to fight back and fight back she did. Over the years, she helped raise thousands of dollars for the MS Society, advocated so the government would put medications on the drug plan and inspired others with her courage. Deb's sense of humour traveled with her even when her life was in danger and people marveled at this.
Deb moved into Deer View Lodge in Wawota in 2013. She always said she missed her home but most of all she missed her dog, Hank, who had previously been her constant companion.
Deb was predeceased by her father in 1979 and mother in 1995.
Those who are left with thankful hearts for Deb's influence are her husband Hugh; son Kyle and his wife Andrea; sister Dr. Linda Hancock (Medicine Hat); aunt Amber McLeod (Regina); as well as dozens of extended family members and wonderful friends.
Funeral service from the Wawota Town Hall on Friday, July 18 at 2:00 p.m. where we will gave thanks for Deb's wonderful example of courage and compassion. Interment in the Wawota Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Sask. M.S. Society would be appreciated.
