On Sunday, November 3, 2013, Phyliss Mowles, widow of Rupert Mowles, Stoughton, SK., and formerly of Corning, SK., died at the age of 86 years.
The funeral servicewas held in the Corning Community Hall, Corning, SK., on Wednesday, November 13, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. with Lynette Callfas officiating. Cremation with interment in the Graytown Cemetery. Predeceased by her husband, Rupert in 1978, her parents George and Eltha Seabrook and by brothers and sisters-in-law, Howard (Winnie) Seabrook, Albert (Nellie) Seabrook, Walter (Amy) Seabrook, sister Gladys (Robert) Wallace, brother-in-law, Ernie Mowles and Jack Lee and sister-in-law Joyce (Ralph) Koester. Phyliss is survived by one son, Leonard, Stoughton, SK., and three daughters, Leona (Peter) Piper, Stoughton, SK.; Lorna (Pat) McCarthy, Corning, SK.; and Laura (Ross) Dayman, Carlyle, SK., ten grandchildren: Dione (Paul) Weber and family Mitchell and Desiray; Cheryle (Garth) Newell and family Lane, Ethan, Brock and Tyra; Christopher (Jaycee) Piper and family, Kienen, Cale, Karson, and Kaden; Janet (Mark) Mytopher, and family Kearstin, Riley and Cammi; Tim (Leanne) McCarthy and family, Hayden, Hunter and Atley; Tyril (Rachel) Dayman, Twyla (Kevin) Thompson and Jorrie, Trevor (Stephanie) Dayman; Trenton (Breanne) Dayman and Terry (Mariah) Dayman, one brother, Billy (Dorothy) Seabrook, Regina, SK.; sisters-in-law, Madge Mowles, BC.; Ivy Harris, Abbottsford, BC.; Margaret Lee, Alberta; Noreen and Doreen, BC.; one brother-in-law, Art (Myrtle) Mowles, Stoughton, SK., as well as her nieces and nephews. Phyliss Emma Seabrook was born in the Heward District on July 11, 1927, fifth child of George and Eltha Seabrook. Education for Phyliss came at Pilot Mound and Hill Hurst School Districts. In May 11, 1947 she married Rupert Mowles. They moved to Heward, SK in 1954 where she worked as post mistress till the late 1950's. Her first child Leonard was born August 20th, 1950 followed by Leona on July 17, 1952 then Lorna on July 13, 1956. The family then moved from Heward to the George Deymen farm east of Corning in July 1960. On January 19, 1963 her last child Laura was born. The family moved to Corning in 1969 where Phyliss continued driving school bus, a job she did for 21 years. She also looked after horses and cows on a small farm directly east of town for many years. She was a member of the Corning Legion Ladies Auxiliary for many years. Her passionate love was her family and friends and many hobbies that she had. Her final years were spent at the New Hope Lodge in Stoughton.
