ESTEVAN - One of the two people charged in connection with the death of an Oxbow woman in April 2024 in Oxbow had his matters heard in Estevan Provincial Court on Monday.

Tyler Neil Shaw of Gainsborough is charged with one count of accessory to murder after the fact following the death of Briana Hayes. Shaw's matters were set aside to Feb. 10 in Estevan.

Nicole Tryhorn, speaking on behalf of Shaw's attorney Darren Kraushaar, said they received significant disclosure and they will be reviewing the information with Shaw. She added that Kraushaar will be meeting with the Crown soon to set a date for a preliminary hearing.

Crown prosecutor Travis Avery countered his file indicates disclosure was completed on or about Nov. 4.

Background: On April 24, 2024, the Carlyle RCMP received a report of a potential homicide. The Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crimes Unit took control of the investigation and began working to confirm the information. Hayes' body was found in a rural location in the RM of Moose Mountain around noon on April 25.

Shaw was arrested and charged the same day, while the second-degree murder charge against Taylor Japp was announced on April 26.

Both men have been released with conditions. A preliminary hearing for Japp is set for June 2 in Carlyle.
