ESTEVAN - One of the two men accused in the death of an Oxbow woman last year has been arrested and jailed for allegedly violating the conditions of his release.
Tyler Neil Shaw of Gainsborough appeared in court March 31, and was remanded into custody for his next appearance, an April 7 show-cause hearing. He has been charged with one count of driving while impaired by alcohol, one count of driving with a blood alcohol content over .08, and four counts of violating the terms of the release order.
He was previously facing a charge of being an accessory to murder after the fact in the April 2024 death of Oxbow's Briana Hayes. After spending time in custody, Shaw was released with conditions, and has made a number of appearances in court.
Prosecutor Travis Avery said the Crown is opposed to Shaw's release and is looking to have Shaw's bail revoked.
The show-cause hearing will determine if Shaw will be granted bail.
Background: On April 24, 2024, the Carlyle RCMP received a report of a potential homicide. The Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crimes Unit took control of the investigation and began working to confirm the information. Hayes' body was found in a rural location in the RM of Moose Mountain around noon on April 25.
Shaw was arrested and charged the same day, while a second-degree murder charge against Taylor Japp was announced on April 26.
A preliminary hearing for Japp is set for June 2 in Carlyle. He remains out on conditions. The hearing will determine whether the case will proceed to trial.
