ESTEVAN - Coun. Tony Sernick is the first person to file nomination papers to be Estevan's next mayor in the upcoming civic election.
Sernick submitted the documents Wednesday morning at Estevan city hall, and officially announced his candidacy in a post on his Facebook page.
He is currently wrapping up his first term as a councillor on Estevan city council.
Incumbent Mayor Roy Ludwig is not seeking re-election.
The City of Estevan started accepting nomination forms for the civic election on Tuesday. Incumbent Coun. Shelly Veroba, who is finishing her second term, filed her papers that day.
The deadline to submit nomination forms is Oct. 9 at 4 p.m.
