Estevan police make arrest for assault, other infractions

Police handled a number of calls during power outage on March 14.

ESTEVAN - The Estevan Police Service made an arrest for assault on the weekend.

Police responded to a disturbance at an east-central residence on March 15. It was reported that an individual in the home was being violent towards others. As a result, a 19-year-old woman was arrested and charged for assault. She will make her first court appearance in May.

That same day, PA911 alerted Estevan police about an open phone line with nobody responding on the other end. A location search determined the phone to be in an apartment complex in Estevan. Members attended the building and through searches of online platforms and the assistance of partner organizations, police located the caller. Through investigation, police determined there was no emergency at the time.

A local resident reported what they thought might be blood splattered on a building in their yard. Police attended and determined the substance was not blood.

Members received a call of an erratic driver in the 400-block of Fourth Street. Members were tied up with another call at the time but a licence plate was obtained by the complainant. The matter remains under investigation.

Electronic monitoring alerted police of an Estevan man who was believed to be breaching curfew conditions. He was located and arrested for court March 17.

An Estevan man was arrested for breaching his conditional sentence order. He was remanded and will also appear in court March 17.

Police responded to a disturbance in the south end of the city. The matter was mediated and one of the parties left for the night.

Officers responded to a report of a fight at a downtown establishment. The involved parties had left prior to police arrival.

Due to the power outage on March 14, police received several calls regarding traffic lights not operating at intersections throughout the city. The EPS reminds the public when a traffic light has no power, motorists are to treat the intersection as a four-way stop. Extra caution is encouraged during these times.

A well-being check was requested by the principal of a local school on a student who had not shown up for class. Officers located the student with a parent a short time later and no issues were found. The school was updated of the situation.

The EPS received a report of an individual taking photos of their partner and distributing them to others without the victim's consent. This matter remains under investigation.

EPS members responded to a disturbance call in the west-central area of the city on March 16. Two neighbours were arguing about a cell phone. The matter is under investigation.

Police received a report of a group of youths entering a vacant residence in the Willow Park Greens Trailer Park. They were located and cautioned about trespassing.

A report of excessive noise coming from an apartment in central Estevan was received. Members attended and spoke with the resident, determined the source of the noise and cautioned them under the noise bylaw.

Police received a report of a social media post with some disturbing messages towards other members of the public. The matter remains under investigation.

Following an investigation into alleged property offences, a 19-year old Estevan woman was arrested and charged for public mischief and fabricating evidence. She will be making a court appearance in May to speak to the charges.

Members conducted traffic stops and sobriety checks throughout the shift.

Police and Crisis Team resources were referred during several calls for service during the weekend.
