WEYBURN - The Saskatchewan Teachers' Federation has given notice of a one-day withdrawal of noon-hour supervision, to take place on March 1 at locations across the province.
Among the divisions affected will be the Holy Family Roman Catholic Separate School Division, which has schools in Estevan, Weyburn, Radville and Wilcox.
Withdrawal of noon-hour supervision means STF members will not be available to supervise students who are eating lunch at school or taking part in noon-hour activities. Although teachers, including principals and vice-principals, often provide lunch break supervision, it is done on a voluntary basis.
"Student supervision is the responsibility of the school division and supervisors are not required to be teachers," the Saskatchewan Teachers' Federation said in a news release.
In a letter to parents, Holy Family said noon hour supervision would be arranged and would be in place to ensure student safety. The division also noted this might involve some students going home for lunch.
