ESTEVAN - The Estevan Comprehensive School Elecs senior girls' basketball team played its pink game Friday night as part of the annual Victor Elias Memorial Shoot for a Cure pink basketball tournament.
Prior to the start of the game, members of the Elecs and their opponents, the Moose Jaw Central Cyclones, lined up for the opening ceremonies. Players and coaches for both teams held pink balloons with names of people they know battling cancer. The balloons were released in the air.
The beneficiaries of this year's tournament, Bob Seibel and Roland Montebon, were introduced to the crowd. Both men are currently battling cancer.
Teigha Lesy, an ECS student who was last year's beneficiary, sang O Canada.
The Elecs donned special pink jerseys for the game. Pink decorations were spread throughout the gymnasium, and numerous pink fundraisers, including a raffle table and a Barbie photo booth, were set up.
Moose Jaw Central won the game 50-46.
The next edition of the Mercury will have more on this story.
