SOUTHEAST SASK. — South East Cornerstone Public School Division (SECPSD) will not be impacted by rotating strikes on Tuesday, said the division on Saturday.

The Saskatchewan Teachers' Federation (STF) has indicated earlier there will be rotating full-day strikes on Feb. 27. SECPSD was not named as one of the divisions impacted at this time.

"There will be school for all students on February 27, 2024, in SECPSD schools," said Keith Keating, SECPSD director of education, in an email to parents and caregivers.

The STF has indicated there will also be a rotating one-day withdrawal of noon-hour supervision on Feb. 27, with SECPSD being impacted.

"This means that there will be no classroom teachers supervising noon hours across SECPSD on February 27, 2024.  Supervision will be provided by non-teaching staff and parent/community members," said Keating.

"We are asking families, if possible, to arrange to have their children go home for noon hour on that day.  Though supervision is being provided it would be helpful to those who are filling the role to have fewer students than typical on this day," Keating said.

He also noted that there will still be no extracurricular activities on Feb. 26 in SECPSD.

"Further STF job action may impact our schools in the future. We understand that the STF intends to give 48 hours notice when announcing job action. We continue to be hopeful that a resolution will be reached and are supportive of the collective bargaining process," Keating said.

Parents and caregivers are asked to watch their email as well as the SECPSD website for notifications of job action.
