ESTEVAN – The Souris Valley Theatre's Valentine's Day fundraiser at Granby's restaurant was a hit, with three sold-out sittings and over 150 people enjoying the opportunity.

"We had two sittings on Friday night, … and one sitting on Saturday," said Allison Holzer, board president of the Souris Valley Theatre. "The very first time we did it back in 2023, we had one sitting, and then we upped it to two sittings last year and three sittings this year."

Holzer attributed part of the event's appeal to the venue.

"Everybody likes to go to Granby’s. They all remember Granby’s, the restaurant, and the great meals you have down there," she said.

The evening featured a fine four-course dining experience in an elegantly-decorated space. The event also included live music by Robert Godfrey.

"He sang Valentine’s Day love songs. And we had the lights dimmed, and just lots of nice decorations. It looked really, really nice. And the music was fantastic."

Guests were welcomed with thoughtful touches.

“When they came in, ladies received a flower, courtesy of the Flower Crew. And we also had a complimentary bottle of wine per ticket for two. Royal LePage and Travel Only, and Double H Electric and Southern Thermal Cork were sponsors for our wine." Holzer said.

The event served as a fundraiser for the theatre.

"We’ve done a lot of our major renovations at the theatre the last couple of years, but we still have more to upgrade," Holzer said. "Our lights are all going obsolete, so we have to replace those. And then there are other smaller things."

Holzer expressed gratitude to the Days Inn staff for their role in making the night successful.

"They are just so accommodating and so nice to work with," she said. "Many people, when they were leaving, said they so thoroughly enjoyed it."

The Souris Valley Theatre is now looking ahead to its next event, a murder-mystery show, which is set for April and is expected to grow much bigger than the inaugural one last year. SaskToday will have more details in March.
