The Souris Valley Museum's locomotive urgently requires restoration, and the fundraising campaign has begun.

ESTEVAN - The Souris Valley Museum is co-ordinating a soup fundraiser to support an ongoing project.

The fundraiser is a partnership with the Mitchell Soup Company, which provides high-quality, dried soup, stew, chili and rice dish mixes to customers. The fundraiser runs from Feb. 1-March 5.

Orders will be collected during this time, both online and in person. The cost of each mix is $10.99 and there are many varieties of the mixes.

The Mitchell Soup Co. is a family-owned Canadian business that has been hand-making these soup mixes since 2008. The museum says the wide range of products offer something to suit everyone’s tastes, with nourishing ingredients, convenient meal planning and budget-friendly choices with up to 10 servings per bag. The museum goes on to say these taste delicious, as they are flavoured with herbs and spices.

"This fundraiser for the Souris Valley Museum is to help raise money for the current locomotive restoration project we hope to complete in the spring of 2025. The locomotive dates to 1944 and it’s an important part of local history that we need to restore and preserve for our local community," said SV Museum director Melanie Memory.

"We also want to develop new programming in the museum which requires extra funding. With our cold winters we thought a bowl of warm soup would taste good, and especially these mixes as they are easy and reasonably priced.”

Ordering can be done online with payment here.

In-person orders with cash payment can be made at the museum. Contact the museum at 306-634-5543, visit the museum, which is adjacent to Highway 39 west of Estevan, reach out to the museum via its Facebook page, or email [email protected].

The Souris Valley Museum is a regional history museum that focuses on the human development and daily life in southeast Saskatchewan.
