ALIDA - Some changes have occurred in and around Alida these past few weeks. The old Joe Martel house and the White Elephant convent have been demolished, burned and the areas cleaned up.

These lots are now available for purchase as well as other lots around town, if one would be interested. However, there are many houses which are sporting “For Sale” signs on their lawns. Hopefully these houses will be sold and new families will arrive and make their home here.

Also, there are single suites available at the Alida Housing complex if one would be interested. Alida will openly welcome you to our little town.

I was informed the other day that Eleanor Dahl, wife of the late Smiling “Smiling” John Lucky had passed away. This singing duel was well known in the area as they made many performances throughout the province. Even I can remember them when they came here to Alida. This type of good old fashioned country music has now come to the end of their era.

Sympathy is extended to Jenny Riersgard and Grant Barber on death of her step-grandmother Deborah Ann Riersgard, late of Torquay, who passed away on Nov. 20 at the age of 73. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Tim, Shelly and Ainsley Cowan spent U.S. Thanksgiving in Minot, N.D., with the Nilsen family.

The Alida community extends condolences to the Shain family on the passing of Ileen Shain at the Sunset Haven Personal Care Home in Carnduff on Nov. 25 at the age of 86 years. She was predeceased by her husband George Shain in 2017, her parents Irvin and Margaret Larson, brother, Wayne and other family members. She is survived by her sons Garth (Cindy), Marlin (Ieva) and daughter Myrna (Glen) Obleman and their families. The Shains lived in our RM for a few years before they retired to Glen Ewen and then Carnduff. A service will be held at a later date in 2022.
