ESTEVAN - The Estevan Police Service (EPS) handled a number of calls on Wednesday regarding scams that involve Social Insurance Numbers and others identifying themselves as being from STARS Air Ambulance Lottery.
Only one instance resulted in Google Play cards being sent as payment to the scammers.
The EPS says it is not unusual for the scammers to request payment in this manner as they are cashed quite readily and are difficult to trace.
The public is reminded not to provide any information of any kind, and to report scams to the Anti Fraud Centre by calling 1-888-495-8501 or the Estevan Police Service.
Also on Wednesday, a motor vehicle collision between a truck and a car occurred in northeast Estevan that resulted in one vehicle being towed due to the amount of damage sustained. No injuries were reported.
Earlier in the week, the EPS received a report of a suspicious vehicle in the Hillside area during the lunch hour. Members have located the driver of the and have spoken with him regarding his actions. At this time there is no further action required.
Police conducted a traffic stop last Friday after observing a vehicle swerving on the road. After further investigation, a 63-year-old Estevan man was charged for impaired driving and exceeding .08. He has a court appearance scheduled for January.
