WEYBURN - A number of paving and infrastructure projects are underway around the City of Weyburn.
There will be a temporary road closure of the intersection at Hwy 39 and Government Road to facilitate the replacement of traffic signals.
The closure started on July 17 and is expected to last until July 19.
During this closure, detours will be clearly marked for local and highway traffic. Heavy trucks are rerouted along Hwy 13 and 16th St.
This is the final phase of the traffic light replacement project which began in May. The new highway standards feature galvanized cantilever poles and energy-efficient LED bulbs.
The City of Weyburn appreciates the patience and understanding of the public during this temporary closure. The cooperation of residents, motorists and pedestrians is crucial to ensure a safe and efficient completion of the project.
Sidewalk construction started on Monday, July 17, on Mergens Street, between Coteau Avenue W and Hill Avenue.
Construction will last approximately two weeks, and the sidewalk on both sides of Mergens Street will be rebuilt. There will be no driveway access to residents during this project. Residents should expect street parking restrictions.
The City of Weyburn asks all drivers and pedestrians to obey signage and exercise caution in the construction zone for the safety of everyone.
Sidewalk replacements is also planned for Tom Hart Drive, Barber Crescent, Coteau Avenue and Government Road.
In addition, due to construction of the new hospital, a portion of the Tatagwa Trail between Fifth Street NE and Fieldstone Estates along Fifth Avenue will be closed for public safety until further notice.
Pedestrians should use the south side of Fifth Avenue N as a detour, while the rest of the trail will remain open.
An ongoing project on Fifth Street will now see repaving of the street surface occur, between Coteau and Prairie Avenues, as will Railway Avenue between Fifth and Eighth Streets.
