CARLYLE - Residents of Carlyle, Redvers, Stoughton and other communities in the southeast may have noticed that military memorial banners are being displayed on their main streets.
In 2019, on Remembrance Day, military historian Craig Bird spearheaded the opening of the Southeast Military Museums in Estevan. It is his goal to honour those who lost their lives in war, those who returned safely from combat missions, and those who continue to serve.
This fall, he has decided to recognize these war veterans in the form of memorial banners. Pictures will be on display every fall up to and including Remembrance Day.
“Veterans are an important part of our history. We must forever remember them for giving us the freedoms we now enjoy. I am pleased to be able to help honour our military,” said Bird. If any families have veterans that they wish to honour, banners are available for purchase from the South East Military Museum.
