A busy week in southeast Saskatchewan town
Town of Wawota
Town of Wawota

The Wawota Curling Club held a very successful open bonspiel recently. There were 16 rinks entered. The results were, Jess Franklin, first, and Kevin Dorrance, second, in the A event; Randy Agracik, first, and Wawota School Alumni 2020, second, in the B event; Ed Fahlman, first, and Wawota High School senior girls, second, in the C event; and Kennedy Hi 1975, first, and Parker Weatherald, second, in the D event.

The South East District Athletic Association curling playoffs were held at the Wawota Curling Rink on Feb. 5. The Wawota junior girls won gold with an 8-4 win over Carlyle. This team consists of skip Rachel Wilson, third Avvi Brehaut, second Olivia Makelki and lead Cassidy White. Their regular coach was unavailable so Brayden Stewart stepped up to coach.

Kevin and Tammy Bunz of Comox, B.C., have purchased the Harold and Jane Laich house on Pipestone Crescent. They take possession as of Feb. 1. We look forward their presence in Wawota.

Jim and Diane Bowey of Welwyn picked up Henry and Joan Fowler and took them to the rink where their great grandson Lennox Moore was playing hockey. He is on the 13 and under provincial team.

Sympathy to Terry and Julie Hamilton, Glen and Deb Sorenson and Tim and Brenda Hamilton on the passing of their Aunt Sarah (Sally) Martin. Sally was from Ceylon and a resident of Deer View Lodge. She passed away on Jan. 25 at the age of 98 years. She was a sister to Walter, Burns, Willis and Fraser Hamilton.

Happy birthday to George Eisler on his 95th birthday on Feb. 12.

The Wawota School Library and Classrooms were the recipients of seven large boxes of books. They were sent by Phoena Wright in memory of her son Brady Vickers, who passed away in 2015 just short of his 21st birthday. Phoena was a former resident of Wawota and attended Wawota School.

Hanna Johnson, who is in Regina attending Style Academy to become an esthetician, will be curling with the Madison Kleiter rink in provincials in Martensville from Feb. 23-27.

Many thanks to those who shared their news with me this week.
