The first municipality to commit funds to the new acute-care hospital for Weyburn has made a financial commitment to the hospital foundation.
The RM of Brokenshell council passed a resolution recently, committing to pay $20,000 a year over a 15-year period, for a total of $300,000, to the Weyburn and District Hospital Foundation.
They have also committed to the coming new Marian Health Care Centre at Radville, as they will pay $10,000 over 15 years, or a total of $150,000.
These funds will form part of the funds which must be committed by the community in order for this project to proceed.
According to provincial government policy, a new health care facility a shared-cost project with the local community, with the government to provide 65 per cent of the cost, and the community 35 per cent.
The Weyburn and District Hospital Foundation was formed as the fundraising arm to raise that community portion. The recently-held Greek Feast was held as a fundraiser towards this end, along with the commitment from the RM.
