WEYBURN – The Weyburn Comprehensive School’s Senior Theatre Club will present “Usher: A Totally Teen Comedy,” an exciting and mysterious comedy based on the macabre works by Edgar Allan Poe.

The production performance will run on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday, Dec. 5, 6 and 8, at 7 p.m. each night, and then for a dessert theatre on Sunday, Dec. 10 at 2 p.m., all at the Cugnet Centre.

This theatrical production promises to captivate, thrill, and entertain audiences with its clever writing and creative stage elements that will charm fans of (and those new to) Poe’s exhilarating works.

Prepare for a tale of a thundering storm, hidden ghosts, a secret curse, and a comedic gaggle of teens that will delight all audiences.

The story begins with a group of high school students who are forced to spend the night in the spooky house of Usher after their bus breaks down on a dark and stormy night. But they’re not alone, as the spirits of Usher ancestors haunt the halls, cursed to stay trapped in the house forever, unless someone helps the last surviving Usher find the will to truly live life.

The cast includes Alex Paszkiewicz as William; Jayden Stephenson as Wilson, and Swede (a ghost); Ivan Zaika is Monty; Lily Moffat is Fortunato; Beth Hamel is Valdemar (Val), and Al (a ghost); Klara Leong is Raven, and Fether (a ghost); Hayden Black is Annabel Lee, and Mailard (a ghost); Harper Williams is Eleonora, a psychic, and Eulalie (a ghost); Salem Bell is Dupin, and Una (a ghost); Ella Leko is Sonia.

Other cast include Travis Benning as Pym, and Tamerlane (a ghost); Markuss Skujins is Edgar; Jonas Burdan is Roderick Usher; Carlee Wade is Madeline Usher; Ryanna Sidloski is Mann (a ghost); Havyn Walbaum is Tarr (a ghost), and a special guest actor is Red Death (a ghost).

Along with a healthy dose of entertaining teen drama, Usher touches on some weighty issues that haunt the nightmares of most teens — isolation, loneliness, suicide and peer pressure. But lighten up, it’s a comedy after all.

With characters drawn from classics such as “The Cask of Amontillado,” “The Tell Tale Heart,” “Annabel Lee” and some lesser-known works, there are countless winks, nudges and nods to the Master of Horror.

Acting directors are Alex MacPherson and Kyla Moffatt, and technical directors are Victoria Utman and Laci Glennie.
