WEYBURN – Weyburn-born pianist Meagan Milatz is coming to give a concert in Regina with cellist on Wednesday, Aug. 24 at Darke Hall at the University of Regina, starting at 7:30 p.m.

The program is centred around the theme of “Composers on Vacation”, such as a sonata for cello and piano by Brahms from his vacation time in the Swiss Alps.

There will also be some Spanish folk songs by Manuel da Falla and David Popper, and some exciting and unique pieces representing different cities in Turkey by Fazil Say, among others.

“Though we won’t be performing in Weyburn, we’ll be getting pretty close with the concert in Regina, and I would love to spread the word as much as possible to the Weyburn area in case people are able to make the trip up to Regina for an evening out,” said Meagan.

A graduate of the Weyburn Comprehensive School and a former student of local piano teacher Cherith Alexander, she is an award-winning pianist who was named one of CBC’s “30 hot Canadian classical musicians under 30”.

Milatz studied fortepiano and piano, respectively, with Tom Beghin and Ilya Poletaev at McGill University, graduating with a master's degree in 2017, and she is still based in Montreal. She last performed in Weyburn in 2019 as part of a 50-concert cross-Canada tour with violinist Amy Hillis.

Crozman is a graduate of the Paris Conservatory of Music, and was named as CBC’s Classical Revelation Artist 2019-20. He was also a Virginia Parker 2021-22 prize winner.

Milatz noted that Darke Hall just reopened up this past year and is a stunning venue.

Tickets are $30 for adults, $25 for seniors, $10 for under 18 as well as for U of R students.

The concert is being presented by the Regina Musical Club and the Prairie Cello Institute.
