Family Place receives generous support for new location

Sponsorships for the new location of The Family Place at 744 McLelland Street were recognized.

WEYBURN - There is a saying 'it takes a village to raise a child', and generous sponsorships from local businesses to the new location of The Family Place demonstrated the support in the community for programs and services for young children in the community.

Silver and bronze sponsorship commitments were recognized at the new location at 744 McLelland Street, just south of Fifth Avenue North.

The Weyburn Young Fellows and Prairie Sky Co-op are both silver sponsors, committing $30,000 to the project. Souris Valley Industries and Crescent Point Energy are both bronze sponsors, committing $15,000 to the project.

"Construction is going really well," said Dawn Gutzke, executive director of The Family Place. "It is going on schedule, and it should be ready by mid-August, so that we can make our big move at the end of August. We will start rolling full programming at the new building in September, when school starts."

A few garage sale and free items have recently been posted on Facebook page. "We have started downsizing, since it will make the move a lot easier," explained Gutzke. "We are going through everything as we start to pack up, and will be purging what we don't need."

The new location will continue to have that 'home away from home' feeling, as when residents walk into the building they will be greeted by a similar comfortable sitting area, with couches and a living area space. "We will also have two giant play spaces for our young participants, the Snoezelen room, and a few exciting things that we will be able to add to our new building."

The grand opening of The Family Place will be later in September, and more details will be released prior to the celebration.

Other businesses and community groups who want to help sponsor the new build, or donate to The Family Place, are encouraged to contact them via email at [email protected].
