ASSINIBOIA - The Assiniboia Festival of Trees Committee recently announced that the annual event would look a little different this year. As the community continues to experience uncertainty and unfamiliar territory with the pandemic, the Festival of Trees Committee decided to postpone the live event until next year.
For this year, the Festival of Trees Committee will host a ‘Festive Friendzy’ online auction on their Facebook page from Monday, November 29 to Friday, December 3. The primary reason to host the online auction is to continue to support the South Country Health Care Foundation and the Prince of Wales Culture and Recreational Centre.
These two organizations missed out on the support of the Assiniboia Festival of Trees in 2020, and the Festival of Trees Committee felt it was important to continue support to the two organizations.
The secondary reasons is that there are many amazing businesses, organizations and individuals in the community, who support the fundraiser and contribute to the economic vitality of the Assiniboia and area community. An online event will help the Festival of Trees Committee to recognize and promise the business community, and highlight what those businesses have to offer.
It wasn’t an easy decision for the Festival of Trees Committee to cancel the 2021 live event, as it has become a holiday classic in the community. However, the date for next year has been set for Saturday, December 3, 2022.
Currently the Festival of Trees Committee is seeking the support of businesses, organizations and individuals in the community to donate items for the ‘Festival Friendzy’ online auction.
Committee members will be out and about the community to connect and follow up with interested businesses. Residents are also welcome to send a direct message the Assiniboia Festival of Trees Facebook page before Monday, November 15.
