WEYBURN – The Boards of Education of the Holy Family Roman Catholic Separate School Division and South East Cornerstone Public School Division have approved the 2023-2024 school year calendar.
The two Boards of Education approved calendar option B for 2023-2024 school year as presented, subject to approval by the Ministry of Education in terms of compliance with the Education Act regulations.
The teaching staff of both school divisions voted on two options, and Cornerstone teachers approved this option by 81 per cent, and Holy Family teachers approved it by 78 per cent.
Highlights of the school calendar include teachers starting to prepare for the new school year on Aug. 30-31 and Sept. 1, and the first day of class is Tuesday, Sept. 5, right after Labour Day. The last day of class is Wednesday, June 26.
For Christmas holidays, the last day of class is Friday, Dec. 22, and the classes are back in session on Monday, Jan. 8, 2024, with Jan. 4-5 taken off as days-in-lieu.
The February break will be the week of Feb. 19-23, and Easter will run from Friday, March 29 to April 5, and classes are back in on April 8.
The calendar has a total of 184 days for students, plus 13 non-instructional days for a total of 197 days.
In keeping with legislative and regulatory amendments, calendars must ensure that a minimum of 950 hours of instructional time is provided to all students. These legislative and regulatory amendments were implemented to ensure that there is a consistent minimum amount of instruction time.
