Chief Geologist Dr. Gary Delaney has been with the Saskatchewan Geological Survey since 1986, initially doing geological mapping in northern Saskatchewan. 鈥淚 walked thousands of kilometres up there. I did a lot of detailed work around what鈥檚 now known as the Seabee Gold operation. It鈥檚 our only gold producer right now. In 1986, I started at what is today the mine site, developing a series of very detailed geological maps for that whole area. There鈥檚 been many gold discoveries in that area and I鈥檇 like to think that my work helped inform some of those discoveries,鈥 he said. His PhD research focused on the sedimentology and stratigraphy of a sequence of Precambrian sedimentary rocks in the Yukon.

鈥淚鈥檓 passionate about what we do here. We鈥檝e got a really good team. We鈥檙e really important to developing the province鈥檚 mineral and petroleum resources. Like I said, it all starts with the rocks. You don鈥檛 know what you鈥檝e got, where it is, how to get it. We鈥檙e the foundation of economic development in our resource sector,鈥 he said.
