ESTEVAN — Warren Morrical with the Estevan Police Service was promoted to inspector recently.

He received a plaque during the Dec. 20 meeting of the Estevan board of police commissioners.

Estevan Police Chief Richard Lowen congratulated Morrical on the promotion and said that he was in the role for some time before the official ceremony.

"He's been doing a fantastic job for us since he's been promoted to the rank of inspector," Lowen said.

Morrical grew up in Alberta. He graduated from the University of Alberta in 1997 with a degree in mining engineer. Warren joined EPS in 2008 after leaving the mining industry. From 2008-2018, Morrical held varying roles within the police service, including frontline patrol officer, firearms instructor, instructor at the Sask. Police College, drug recognition expert, court liaison officer, traffic supervisor, member of the Combined Traffic Services of Saskatchewan and a member of Criminal Investigations Division.

In 2018, Morrical was promoted to the rank of sergeant and assigned as supervisor for criminal investigations, a role which continued until 2021. Between April and September of last year, Morrical assumed command with the EPS as the acting chief. Following the completion of these duties, Warren was assigned to a role as an administrative sergeant in April 2022, and subsequently promoted to the rank of inspector in September.

"It's my honour to present to the board our inspector Warren Morrical," Lowen said.

"As Rich Lowen has indicated, I feel like I've been here for a while," Morrical said. "Last 15 years, I've had a tremendous opportunity to act in a number of different capacities for the police service, which I believe have partially made me the person that I am today.

"I would like to express my thanks to this board and the past board who put a great deal of faith in me, especially in the last number of years. I find myself in a position where I simply enjoy the work that we do. And I'm very much looking forward to continuing with Chief Lowen and Deputy Chief [Murray] Cowan to develop the organization that I've grown to love," Morrical said during his promotion ceremony.
