ESTEVAN - The Estevan Police Service (EPS) made an arrest for drug and finance-related crimes Friday afternoon.
Police had been looking for the individual, a 28-year-old Estevan man, regarding the financial crimes. He was arrested without incident and drugs were located on him.
The man is facing several charges: trafficking meth, possession for the purpose of trafficking meth, fraud, uttering a forged document and possession of property obtained by crime. All charges are under the Criminal Code.
He will appear in Estevan Provincial Court in January 2022.
In other recent police news, members attended to a residence in northwest Estevan on Tuesday for a report of a male in physical distress. Upon arrival, the male was found to be heavily intoxicated with no other emergent physical issues. A query was done and the male was found to have an outstanding arrest warrant and on conditions that included abstaining from the consumption of alcohol. He was arrested and transported to the police station, where he was lodged in cells until sober.
Members attended to the scene of a collision in east central Estevan on Thursday, which resulted in one of the vehicles being towed from the scene due to damage sustained. The collision was caused by a truck pulling a trailer proceeding onto the street in the path of another vehicle. The driver of the truck-trailer was charged with failing to yield the right of way when entering a highway under the Traffic Safety Act. No injuries were sustained.
A scam was reported regarding the complainant receiving an email saying that her anti-virus subscription was being renewed for three years at $100 a year, and if she didn’t contact the service provider, it would be automatically renewed. When the complainant reached out to the company, they advised her they needed access to her computer. The access was granted, but not before the scam was realized. Luckily there was no loss experienced as the proper steps were taken upon realization of the scam.
The EPS received the report of a male who entered a home in west central Estevan uninvited and when the homeowner was present. The male, who was startled by the homeowner’s dog, stated he was an electrician, then left. Extensive patrols were done, but nobody was located. The male is described as Indigenous with a slender build and a beard. The public is reminded to ensure doors are locked and should consider locking doors even when home.
Police arrested a 44-year-old Kipling man Saturday for impaired driving. The man was lodged in cells for the evening and released the following day. He is scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 17.
