ESTEVAN — Estevan police arrested and charged a 37-year-old local man for trespassing at the Estevan City Landfill on Sept. 8. He was released after being charged under the provincial legislation for trespassing.
The same day, police arrested and charged a 23-year-old man from Pelly, Sask., for impaired driving. He supplied samples of breath nearly twice the legal limit. He was released from custody and will appear in court in November.
Earlier this week, the Estevan Police Service received a report of an erratic driver in the north end of the city on Sept. 5. Members spoke with the driver of the vehicle who was attending St. Joseph's Hospital due to a medical emergency.
The same day, the department received a report of a theft of copper wire from a business just north of the city. This matter is being looked into.
Officers also responded to a report of a possible impaired driver leaving a residence in the central part of the city but were unable to locate the vehicle.
Members responded to a report of an assault/harassing behaviour at a local business. The employee was screamed at and had an item thrown at them. The matter is being looked into and video is to be obtained.
Police also located and charged the owner of a black SUV that was involved in a hit-and-run collision on Sept. 1. He will appear in traffic court in November to answer to the charge.
On Sept. 6, police received a complaint about an unwanted guest in a residence who was refusing to leave. Police attended and the individual left the residence when requested.
Police also received a report of theft of property. The matter is still under investigation.
Members were called to a two-vehicle collision at Fourth Street and Souris Avenue South. No one was injured, but both vehicles needed to be towed from the scene. The collision is still under investigation.
Police also received a report of a harassing communication. The person making the unwanted phone calls was spoken to and warned.
Members also responded to a report of a vehicle being taken without the owner's consent. A statement was obtained. The matter is still under investigation.
Police received a complaint of a woman in a local business causing a disturbance and failing to leave on Sept. 7. Police attended, but she had already left the area. She was later located and warned for her behaviour.
The same day members received a report of a theft from a local business. The matter is still under investigation.
Police also completed enforcement in relation to drivers obeying the stop arms on the school buses. Police monitored a bus for its complete route and are happy to report there were no violations. Continued monitoring and enforcement will happen as the school year progresses.
Police remind the public that you have to stop for the school buses with their flashing lights and stop arms out no matter what direction you are approaching. You are not allowed to pass a bus picking up or dropping off children at a stop when the emergency equipment is operational.
