ESTEVAN - Members of the Estevan Fire Rescue Service had a couple of carbon monoxide calls and other incidents in the past week.
It started on Jan. 31, when firefighters were called to assist Estevan EMS and St. Joseph’s Hospital staff members at St. Joe’s with what Deputy Fire Chief Kyle Luc call a lift assist for someone who was being transported to hospital in Regina. When the fire department arrived, their assistance was no longer required, so they returned to the station.
The next call was on Feb. 2, when they were called to alarms ringing at a downtown business. Upon arrival, there was no fire and it was determined to be an issue with the sprinkler system. The scene was turned back over to the building owner to have someone come in and inspect the system.
The following day, carbon monoxide alarms went off at a residence in the south side of the city. Crews responded and Luc said there was no gas detected in the residence. A faulty detector is believed to be the culprit.
The following day, they had another CO alarm in southeast Estevan which proved to be caused by a faulty detector.
Finally, emergency crews were called to a single-vehicle rollover north of Estevan during the noon hour on Feb. 6. Luc said minor injuries occurred.
The fire hall will also be the site of an open house for Estevan EMS on Feb. 8 from 6:30-8 p.m. for anyone interested in becoming an emergency medical responder.
