Gofundme page set up to help former Weyburn woman battle cancer

WEYBURN – A gofundme page has been set up for former Weyburn resident Ensley (Akins) Peters, who is undergoing another round of treatments for cancer.

The page was set up by her friend, Faith Taylor, to help out Ensley and husband Sam. Ensley is the daughter of Shenan and Luanne Akins of Weyburn.

“For those of you that don’t know, over the past five years, Ensley has been battling cancer with the most recent diagnosis being in February,” said Taylor.

“Ensley is a beautiful, vibrant, caring and an amazing human. If you know Ensley, it’s an honour. She has a love for God and a zest for life that no one can compare to. I’m telling you this girl sheds light everywhere she goes. There is never not a smile on her face.”

She noted that currently Sam is off work to be at Ensley’s side, to provide her the love and support she needs.

“Cancer comes with a lot of costs. As Ensley is unable to work and Sam is now off as well, things are starting to pile up. Ensley is currently undergoing radiation and starting chemo this week,” explained Taylor.

The community has rallied to help Ensley out before in her fight with cancer, including an outdoor concert held in 2020 in the parking lot at the Tom Zandee Sports Arena.

She married Sam Peters in June of 2021, and convocated with her Bachelor of Education degree in June of 2022.

“If you are the praying type, please be praying for complete healing that the cancer would be gone in the morning, pray for healing over her whole body, pray for Sam as he navigates life through this, and lastly pray for the nurses and doctors that they would know what to do in every scenario and that they would make the best decisions,” Taylor added.

The goal of the fundraiser page is to raise $30,000, and as of Friday, the page had brought in $15,205 from 106 donors.
