REGINA — This weekend marks the I Love Regina 20th anniversary event in Victoria Park on Saturday, Aug. 13.
The event marks 20 years since the initiation of the I Love Regina program, designed to enhance a sense of community in the city. Mayor Sandra Masters encourages residents to take part in the celebrations this weekend.
“We’ll be heading to the park where there will be dancers, multicultural events,” said Masters on Wednesday. “Then we’ll be serving burgers for free at lunchtime, so it will go until to 2 p.m. in the afternoon … if you love Regina just come on down to Victoria Park. It’s really about community connection and just that pride we have in our community.”
The day beings at 8:30 a.m. in the City Hall courtyard with the . Participants of all ages are welcome to register to walk, run or wheel in a three kilometre, 5K or 10K event, with the run finishing at Victoria Park.
The I Love Regina Event will feature free and family-friendly activities, as well as live entertainment. For more information about the event or about registering for the I Love Regina Run, visit .
Here is a rundown of the schedule for I Love Regina on Saturday, as posted on the City’s website:
8 a.m. - I Love Regina Run - Participant check-in at the City Hall courtyard.
8:30 a.m. - I Love Regina Run start line at City Hall.
9 a.m. - The Regina Farmers' Market and exhibitors and children's activities begin.
There will be Regina Downtown Games and Activation, featuring stories with Regina Public Library, artist-led crafts with the Dunlop Art Gallery and a pop-up bike co-op with Bike Regina.
10:30 a.m. - Program begins on the plaza stage, hosted by Evan Bray, chief of police and with a welcome by Masters.
Live entertainment presented by: Living Skies School of Irish Dance, Shaolin Dragon Kenpo School, Collective Studios Regina Ltd., Salsa Colada, Martin School of Dance + Sundown Optimist Baton Group and Street Culture Project Face Painting in Victoria Park.
Free treats are courtesy of Sherwood Co-op (while supplies last).
11 a.m. to 1 p.m. is the free barbecue.
2 p.m. - event ends.
