Souris-Moose Mountain MP Ed Komarnicki is praising an initiative on behalf of the federal government that will create thousands of jobs for young Canadians.
"I was pleased with the announcement made on behalf of the Honourable Minister Diane Finley, Minister of Human Resources and Skills Development, regarding a significant investment in the Canada Summer Jobs program that will create more job opportunities for students," said Komarnicki.
"This is a popular program in Souris-Moose Mountain and the participation rate is high by local groups and not-for-profit organizations as well as public sector employees and small business. It is a great way to create high quality summer job opportunities for young people aged 15 to 30 years who are full-time students and intend to return to school in the next school year."
The economy remains the government's top priority, according to Komarnicki. In 2010, about 37,000 summer jobs were created for students.
"Starting in 2011, our government is permanently increasing the budget for Canada Summer Jobs by $10 million," said Komarnicki. "This additional funding for the program will create as many as 3,500 additional jobs for students next summer."
The additional $10 million is provided from existing resources within HRSDC and is in line with the government's commitment to return to a balanced budget while ensuring value for taxpayer's dollars.
"The Prime Minister, once again, demonstrated that the economy was his number one priority by appointing a Minister of State (Finance) to further strengthen our government's commitment to creating jobs and economic growth," said Komarnicki.
Since July of last year, Canada has created over 441,000 new jobs; however, the global recovery is still fragile. That's why jobs and the economy remain the Government of Canada's top priority as it continues to implement its job-creating, low-tax plan, said Komarnicki.
