REGINA — A Carievale, Sask. father accused of abducting his daughter for several months has made a request for the consideration of supervised bail until trial dates are set.
Michael Gordon Jackson appeared by teleconference in front of Judge Noah Evanchuk in Regina Provincial Court on March 7, his first appearance with appointed legal counsel.
Jackson’s lawyer requested and was granted the review of a bail verification and supervision report, in regards to Jackson’s potential release.
The terms listed in the requested report said that pending release, Jackson would remain at his home in Carievale under electronic monitoring, with one individual named as a surety.
Legal representation for Jackson also requested disclosure from the Crown regarding the case.
Jackson is accused of withholding his seven-year-old daughter from her mother Mariecar Jackson from December until his arrest on Feb. 24, despite a court awarding her full custody of the child in January.
After being taken into custody in Vernon, B.C., Jackson was returned to Saskatchewan to face one charge of abduction in contravention to a custody or parental order, per Section 282 (1) of the Criminal Code.
Jackson made his first appearance in court on March 1, at which time he requested adjournment to seek legal representation.
Jackson remains in custody at this time, and neither Crown nor defense representatives gave comment regarding the reasoning behind requesting the report.
He will return to court for further discussion regarding bail on March 11.
