Police step-up enforcement over holiday season

Weyburn RCMP Traffic Services has begun to participate in Operation Overdrive, a Saskatchewan Government Insurance(SGI) program that focuses on impaired drivers. Local RCMP have already made one serious arrest as a result of the SGI initiative.

On November 20 at approximately 2:10 a.m. a vehicle was observed sliding through an intersection at the corner of Third Street and Railway Avenue. The vehicle was stopped and the driver was arrested for impaired driving. Further investigation resulted in the seizure of 16 grams of cocaine,12 grams of marijuana, and cash.


As a result of the traffic stop,a 39-year-old female has been charged with operating a motor vehicle with blood alcohol levelover .08, as well as trafficking and possession of a controlled substance. She will make her first court appearance on December 14 in Weyburn.


Operating while impaired continues to be a major cause of motor vehicle injuries and fatalities. The police will continue to step-up enforcement in these areas throughout the holiday season.
