WEYBURN – The Salvation Army food bank in Weyburn received a donation of $11,500 from Precision Ag and Cargill in a presentation on Wednesday.
The donation was presented by Jody Magotiaux, general manager, along with Jeff Anderson and Raela Colliness, all of Precision Ag, to Nicole Strickland, community ministries worker, and Cassy Baumgartner, family services worker, both of the Salvation Army.
The funds provided for a new cooler for refrigerating produce, milk and other perishables for the food bank, along with money for food hampers for those in need.
The cooler cost just under $5,000, so the balance of the donation will be used towards providing food for hampers.
Magotiaux said of the donation, “Precision Ag and Cargill’s purpose is to nourish the world in a safe, responsible and sustainable way. We direct our partnerships to organizations such as the Weyburn Salvation Army that are aligned with this purpose, in this case by addressing food security.”
He added that food security exists when everyone has physical and economic access to safe, nutritious and affordable food that meets their daily needs and provides the foundation for an active and healthy life.
“Precision Ag and Cargill work to advance food security around the world every day through our businesses, as well as by supporting organizations such as the Salvation Army here in Weyburn,” said Magotiaux.
He noted that Precision Ag donated $5,000, and this was matched by Cargill with $5,000 in U.S. funds, resulting in the donation amount of $11,500.
