REGINA — Regina police have declared a death reported on Tuesday to be the city’s first homicide of the year, beginning with the arrest of one adult male suspect.
Police responded to a dispatch call on Jan. 4 at approximately 1 p.m. for a report of a deceased woman found at a home in the 1600 block of Toronto Street.
Upon arrival, officers found one adult woman confirmed deceased by EMS on scene. Patrol officers were then joined by Major Crimes, Forensic Identification members and the Saskatchewan Coroners Service to investigate.
The victim has been identified as Deborah Mae Mahadeo, 63. Her next of kin have been notified.
Further investigation led to the arrest of a 34-year-old man, later that day.
He has been charged with second degree murder, and made his first appearance on this charge in provincial court on Wednesday morning.
