WEYBURN – Southeast College, in conjunction with the Ministry of Advanced Education, announced the expansion of their Practical Nursing program.
Southeast College has received a one-time additional funding increase to support the addition of 14 new Practical Nursing seats as part of the province’s Health and Human Resources Action Plan. The program will start in September 2023 at the Weyburn Campus.
“Southeast College is very pleased to receive additional funding to assist with the training of nurses in rural Saskatchewan,” said Dr. Vicky Roy, President and CEO of Southeast College. “The addition of this intake of Practical Nursing students is very timely for our institution as we typically carry an extensive wait list for this program. The additional cohort of students will not only help to reduce the waitlist but will continue to support the Government of Saskatchewan’s Health and Human Resources Action Plan.”
Applications for the additional intake of Practical Nursing students will be accepted immediately with Year One of the program starting September 2023. For more detailed information including important application deadlines and information, visit the website at www.southeastcollege.org.
In addition to the PN seat expansion, earlier this year Southeast College announced the addition of a Continuing Care Assistant program located in Assiniboia. The funding for this program is also part of the health care seat expansion.
Saskatchewan students can access a variety of financial aid options to help support their educational journeys, including loans, grants, bursaries and scholarships. The Graduate Retention Program also provides up to $20,000 in tax credits for those who stay in the province after graduation.
The Health Human Resources Action Plan announced in September is based on four pillars: recruit, train, incentivize and retain. These priorities align with Saskatchewan's Growth Plan and will invest over $60 million and add more than 1,000 health professionals to the health system over the next few years.
Southeast College is proud to offer innovative and flexible programming that encourages students to learn where they live.
