WEYBURN – The fall months will be busy with programs for every age, and special events at the Weyburn Public Library, including the fall book sale, an author reading and a concert.
The author reading will feature Ingrid Deringer of Katepwa Beach, on Monday, Sept. 11 at 6:30 p.m.
She will be reading from her latest book, For Love and Mercy, and will share details about her experiences with publishing and writing books for different genres and ages.
The fall book sale will be held from Thursday, Oct. 19 to Saturday, Oct. 21, and donations will be accepted at the library after Oct. 2.
Weyburn musician Dan Cugnet will put on a concert at the library on Monday, Oct. 16 at 6:30 p.m. He has a new album due to be released this fall, and most recently was nominated for multiple awards for the Sask. Country Music Association.
For children aged six to eight, there are programs on Tuesdays and Wednesdays after school, and for those aged nine to 12, programs are held on Mondays and Thursdays.
Some of the activities will include baking apple dumplings, making a 3D fall tree from a paper bag, learning how to draw anime, learning basic volleyball and badminton skills, and making and learning how to play the “sticks game”.
For teens, programs and activities range from an anime and manga club, an “art attack” class, kitchen chemistry where teens can learn how to cook different recipes, and programs for days off school.
Programs for adults include a watercolours class on Monday, Sept. 18 at 4 p.m., and a junk journaling class with Sherilou, on Wednesday, Sept. 6, Oct. 25 and Nov. 29.
A class in making Hobbit Doors will be held on Thursday, Sept. 21 as a part of Tolkien Week, and a cards and coffee time will be held on Friday, Sept. 8 and 22 at 10 a.m.
A Mindful Mingle program will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 20, intended for those who live with dementia-related illnesses and their caregivers. A presentation will be given by Lori Tulloch, a First Link Coodinator with Sun Country Resource Centre and Erica Matthews of the Alzheimer Society of Saskatchewan.
A special Culture Days film will be shown on Thursday, Sept. 28 at 6:30 p.m., focused on indigenous issues in honour of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, which is on Sept. 30. Culture Days will run from Sept. 22 to Oct. 15.
A creative writing night will held on Tuesday, Sept. 19 at 6:30 p.m.
An adult book club will held on Thursday, Sept. 14 at 6:30 p.m. to discuss the book, An American Marriage by Tayari Jones. The book for October, Magpie Murders by Anthony Horowitz, will be available after Sept. 14.
