SOUTHEAST SASKATCHEWAN - The travel not recommended advisories for many highways in southeast Saskatchewan have ended, according to the Ministry of Highways and Infrastructure’s Highways Hotline.
The first of the advisories was issued Saturday night just after 10:30 p.m. Some have been lifted. And there are some new ones, too.
A portion of Highway 39 was closed near the junction with Highway 18. According to the Highway Hotline, the stretch of highway opened again in the mid-morning, but traffic was being guided through and motorists should have expected delays. There was debris on the road and flag persons were present. No warnings are now in place for that stretch of road.
A second incident occurred Sunday morning on Highway 39. According to the Highway Hotline, it was eight kilometres southeast of Macoun. The northbound lane was blocked.
"Please use extreme caution if travelling in the area," the Highway Hotline states.
Footage posted to social media showed several semis in the ditch on both sides of the highway.
The adverse travelling conditions started Saturday night due to freezing rain. A freezing rain warning was in effect for the southeast, including Estevan, Weyburn, Carlyle, Regina and Moosomin. That has now been lifted, but a fog advisory has now been issued that covers southern Saskatchewan.
The last of the travel not recommended advisories - Highway 9 from the junction with Highway 48 to the junction with Highway 1, and Highway 48 between Highways 47 and 9 - were lifted Sunday evening.
Other highways report that winter conditions exist. Some have reduced or poor visibility due to the fog.
The travel not recommended advisories that were in effect for the Estevan and Weyburn area highways have been lifted. Those highways now report that winter conditions exist.
